Leticia, please kick things off by introducing yourself and your story.
I am a single mother of two beautiful girls. After enduring 13 years of marriage, I found the strength and courage to break free from a toxic relationship that could have cost me my life on several occasions. Throughout the process, I relied on my faith and let God guide me.
Following my divorce, I decided to wholeheartedly pursue my dreams of entrepreneurship. I was determined to turn my negative experiences into something positive. Motivated by my own journey, I felt compelled to write a book, sharing my story to inspire and encourage others, reminding them that anything is possible. I coined the phrase FEAR as “Face Everything And Rise,” a mantra that drove me forward.
While working a 9 to 5 job as a medical coding research analyst for over 7 years, I simultaneously expanded my entrepreneurial endeavors. I started a custom t-shirt company, ventured into real estate, and established a salon and suites business. Additionally, I created coaching courses for aspiring entrepreneurs, providing them with comprehensive guidance from start to finish in launching their own businesses.
Empowered by my achievements, I am now focused on writing more books in the future, aiming to inspire individuals to elevate their dreams to new heights. Together, let’s embrace the power within us and turn our aspirations into reality.
I've noticed the older I get, the more important it is to start my day off right. What's your morning routine? How do you get your day started?
I wake up early to have some alone time to pray and gather my thoughts on what I need to do for the day or for the week as well as make breakfast for my girls. I don’t have a set routine. I start each day differently.
What inspired or inspires you to do the work you do?
I am inspired and motivated by various factors in my work as an author, financial literacy coach, crafter, real estate investor, and salon and suite business owner.
Firstly, I am driven by the opportunity to share my life story and inspire others through my writing. Additionally, helping people gain financial literacy brings me great satisfaction as I believe in empowering individuals to take control of their finances. My passion for crafting fuels my desire to create custom apparel and accessories, allowing me to merge my creativity with entrepreneurship. Real estate investing excites me as I see it as a means to build wealth and create a secure future. Finally, establishing a salon and suite business provides a platform to support beauticians and barbers, helping them thrive in their careers. These diverse pursuits stem from my personal experiences, interests, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” —Henry Ford
How has a failure, or perceived failure, set you up for later success?
Failure, or even perceived failure, can often be a valuable learning experience that sets the stage for later success. Personally, I have had many failures in various areas of my life, and they have played a crucial role in shaping my journey. These failures have taught me valuable lessons, including resilience, adaptability, and the importance of perseverance. They have also highlighted areas where I needed improvement, prompting me to seek new strategies and approaches.
Failure provides me with an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. When faced with setbacks, I have to take time to analyze what went wrong, identify my mistakes, and learn from them. This has helped me develop a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to make more informed decisions in the future. Moreover, failure has often served as a catalyst for innovation and creativity. It has pushed me to think outside the box, explore alternative paths, and embrace change. I have been able to discover fresh perspectives and found that my failures have been stepping stones toward my successes. Each setback has propelled me forward, equipping me with valuable skills, knowledge, and a resilient mindset. I learned how to embrace failure as a learning opportunity and use it to fuel personal growth. As scary and uncomfortable as that sounds, I have been able to transform setbacks into springboards for achieving greater accomplishments.
You are a leader. Whether in your home or in your career, you mobilize, organize, create and nurture bonds, and facilitate harmony. As a leader (in your home and in your career), how do you take care of your well-being?
As a leader both at home and in my career, taking care of my well-being has been a challenge, especially as a single mother of two beautiful kids. However, I recognize the importance of self-care in order to be the best version of myself for my family and my professional responsibilities. While finding time can be difficult, I make it a priority to carve out moments for self-care in each of the four dimensions—emotional, physical, social, and mental.
Do you consider yourself to be a creative leader? Yes. If so, why? If not, what kind of leader do you identify with most? Or are you a combination of a few types? (traditional, creative, servent-leader, strategic, etc)
Being faced with so many different challenges and failures, forced me to tap into being creative and figuring out how to problem-solve. I identify with all the types.
It's important to invest in your personal development and growth. Healing and growth are essential to being an effective leader. Do you agree? Yes. Why or why not?
Healing and growth are essential for effective leadership because it enhances self-awareness, promote resilience, foster empathy and connection, drive personal development, and inspire others. By prioritizing healing and growth, leaders create an environment that supports the well-being and growth of their team members, ultimately leading to higher levels of productivity, engagement, and success.
How do you stay balanced? Are you able to maintain a work-life balance or is that a challenge for you?
I often get asked questions about how I do everything that I do. My answer to everyone is often times I ask myself that same question. Lol Even though it is a challenge, I just do what I can as much as I can without stressing over the little things, or the huge things for that matter. I have to sit back and have those self-talks with Biblical scriptures often.
What are your favorite resources for self-development (books, podcasts, people, apps, etc)?
I enjoy listening to motivational speakers, reading articles, and listening to audiobooks.
I'm a quote junkie! What is your favorite quote?
“Don’t downgrade your dream just to fit your reality. Upgrade your conviction to match your destiny.” - Tony Gaskins
